Chorley SSP
Gifted & Talented
At the Sports Star Academy, we aim to enhance your understanding of training, skill development, and body mechanics. We focus on efficient training methods to optimise your performance. Our programme also includes leadership and teamwork skills, preparing you for your transition into secondary school sports. As sports and physical education evolve, so do our training methods. By joining our academy, you’ll gain the knowledge needed to progress in your sports journey, with our continuous support every step of the way.
Elite athletes in Chorley, selected through our assessments, will be invited to a 5-week training camp. These sessions will offer mental and physical activities, tips, and advice to overcome challenges. You’ll also have the opportunity to train with other athletes from your district. This experience will give you an edge as you transition to high school sports. We collect individual feedback for all invitees and share it with the high school’s PE department to ensure your sports journey is successful.
We’re proud to have nurtured numerous young athletes who have achieved remarkable feats. Our Sports Stars Academy has been home to successful local athletes, including professional footballers, UK taekwondo and boxing champions, swimmers, dancers, basketball players, European BMX champions, and more. In short, we’re here to help you reach your full sporting potential.
Schools are provided with an assessment session to evaluate the abilities of Year 6 students. The school chooses the participants. The top 40 performers are then invited to join the Sports Stars Academy, which commences after the May half term.
The Dance Star Academy focuses on enhancing technique, versatility, flexibility, and performance skills through a range of dance styles. Throughout the year, Dance coaches scout for talent and PE leads can nominate students for the annual audition process.
Those with a special talent and passion for Dance are selected for the opportunity to take part in weekly training, work with industry professionals and perform at various local events. Within the Dance Star Academy, we aim to inspire young dancers, provide a safe space to explore movement, build new friendships and provide insight into the opportunities that Dance can bring.
